Ordino Arcalis

Ring of Arcalis The "Ring of Stainless Steel" was the first of the sculptures commissioned by the Bureau of Social Security to appear on a stamp. This was issued in October 1992 by the French Bureau. This sculpture is the work of the Italian, Mauro Staccioli. The "Ring" represents the alliance between art and life, reason and landscape. I'm not sure what that means but the information about the issue goes on to say that the sculpture helps the spectator to discover "the real images, the authentic perspectives, the deep thought, the morphology of the landscape". Also, according to Staccioli, the "Ring" has another effect - little by little, as one approaches it, it gives the impression that, like an enormous wheel, the ring is rolling towards you! For Staccioli, his work does not have an aesthetic end, but rather has the function of raising questions.
